Competition Called Off for Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast, Swell Approaching

SNAPPER ROCKS, Queensland/Australia (Wednesday, March 2, 2011) – With the continued absence of suitable swell, event organizers at the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover have called competition off for the fourth consecutive day.

The opening event of the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast have yet to recommence competition since last Saturday, but a promising looking forecast for the end of the waiting period could have the world’s best surfers go out with a bang.

“With no significant swell on offer this morning, we’ve called competition off again,” Rich Porta, ASP Head Judge, said. “It’s unfortunate to have several lay days in a row, but the swell approaching towards the end of the event window is starting to look very promising. This is why we have waiting periods and hopefully we can finish in some solid surf.”

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 6:30am to assess conditions for a possible 7:30am start.

When competition resumes, up first will be Bede Durbidge (AUS), 28, up against wildcard Matt Banting (AUS), 16, in the opening men’s heat of Round 2 and Rebecca Woods (AUS), 26, battling Courtney Conlogue (AUS), 18, in the opening women’s heat of Round 2.
